The India Meteorological Department upped its warning level from “orange” to “red,” signifying a forecast of heavy rain in Mumbai and its suburbs from 8 p.m. on Thursday through Thursday afternoon.

The city has been experiencing continuous heavy rains in various regions since Wednesday afternoon at 12 p.m. Between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, an average of 76.45 mm of rain fell in Mumbai. The eastern suburbs received an average of 58.01 mm of rainfall during this time period, while the western suburbs received somewhat more, at 70.43 mm. The rain has had a considerable impact on many parts of the city, and there is a risk of waterlogging and other related problems in low-lying areas.
